ABOUT ST LUCIA
St. Lucia has had a turbulent history and for centuries was fought over because of her strategic position. She gained the name "Helen of the West", a name which it cherishes, due to many calls to arms. The island changed hands 14 times as England & France vied for possession, - 7 times British, 7 times French. Much of it is markedly rural in nature: a mix of small fishing villages, secluded coves, sprawling banana plantations and mountainous jungle. The most dramatic scenery is in the south: a spectacular landmark of St. Lucia visible for miles, the Pitons are twin volcanic spires majestically soaring out of the sea with waves crashing around their bases. |
